19 "For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. 21 So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? 25 Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.
This truly remarkable verse is the arrow that points directly at our own sin. Idolatry, selfish desires, adultery, drugs, things of this world, all of this and more is the greatest war ever waged against God. But these are merely chains bound to be broken. These sins are by our wrong doings but can only be broken off of us through Christ. That being said what MUST be done in order to defeat all sin, IS TO GIVE ALL SIN TO CHRIST FULL FAITHFULLY!
"Above all else, guard your heart, for everything flows from it." NIV. Proverbs 4:23
This is why sin matters. Our soul desires God as influenced by the Holy Spirit, yet everything including our body wants anything and everything. Although we may include God by doing things like going to church, we also do plenty other things that don't include God. Some good, some bad; but our physical body is a temple for which God dwells. After all that is why we don't make sacrifices anymore because Jesus is the sacrifice inside our temple walls. Because of this we enter the gates of heaven when we die. Now that's cool and all but that doesn't quite answer the question. Lets put it in this perspective, every single time the temple of God disobeyed the Lord, the temple was ransacked or destroyed. More notably the last time this happened was when Jesus died by the hand of his own people, and the temple was damaged just as Jesus predicted. When we invite sin into the our temple, tensions build and eventually everything falls apart. That is why sin matters.
Okay then, but how do I become quote on quote "sinless." Well we can't. If we could, then Jesus came for nothing. Instead we must fix our hearts to desire god 24/7. Which that - as hard as it is - is possible. We will have times where we won't be thinking of God. But by instinct or muscle memory we can in those times. As we work by faith in Christ we will grow closer to God. Faith meaning; making God our lord and us his servants. We will never do a perfect job, but by doing his will out of sheer desire too. Now that is believing in Jesus as savior.
The first step is to confess you sin to God. Depending on the severity, you may want a accountability partner to lead you through your struggles. This does not have to be your mom, dad, wife, or husband. It could even be someone struggling with the exact same thing. So long as the main objective is to do this for God. Next, ask for forgiveness even though you already know the answer. This is the second step toward purity. And lastly and most importantly STAY IN FAITH.
"...The law that requires works? No, because of the law that requires faith." Romans 3:27
God doesn't expect you to be pure like Jesus, but he does expect faith in Jesus and the work that he is continuously doing in us. This doesn't mean you can never sin, he just wants a devotion to him. God doesn't want an acquaintance or a friend or even a best friend, he simply wants you to make him your lord as your soul desires.
The worst harm that could be inflicted to me is going to hell. So no chain will condemn me, no chain will bound me to the ground, nothing can stop the power of God. Through faith in Jesus Christ I am saved. And through faith in Christ I know victory is inevitable. I trust the lord for all things. I beg of God tonight for forgiveness of my sins. Because like Jesus said to the Roman soldiers on the cross, "they no not what they do." But today I know the harm I do to myself. I know what I should do. Sin will not overcome me, for I am saved. Say this prayer tonight," Jesus forgive me of my sins, help me acknowledge your life as still living among us, let this fire grow deep inside me and I will put my full faith in you. as I repent from my sins" I want you to know what you just did put the Holy Spirit in your soul. Lord let your light grow among the world. Amen!
