Daniel and the Lions Den; one of the most predominate stories in our childhoods if you had grown up in church watching Veggie Tales. I remember time and time again Daniel being persecuted, thrown into the lions den and miraculously living with the blessed riches from God. The fearlessness he had saved hundreds of Jews and gentiles. However one major thing is forgotten within this story. Anyone can tell you, "not to fear anything". But God is not talking about putting this quote in action, but rather the opposite.
If we acknowledge the power of God, we will fear nothing but God. You see, if we fear God and he is the all powerful, all knowing, all wisdom, and glory, pure righteousness, and pure in of itself; the "Great I Am" as you will. Because he is everything, he is nothing, he is in everything created, the never to be created, he is the unimaginable. Why do you think we look at the stars in aw? No matter how much we look at the stars, there is always something we do not see. That is God! With so much authority and power we fear the lord as we kneel before him on the cross.
"Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the Lord evil is avoided." NIV. Proverbs 16:6
As we see in Daniels story, not only can our evil be destroyed by the fear of the Lord, but the evil of others is avoided as well. So let's get personal, what is your fear? Is it a Job position, money, divorce, impurity, idolatry, what is it?
Next ask yourself, is this a fear of God, or a fear from the world? If it is fear of the lord, the Holy Spirit is convicting of sin or of wrong doings. If this is the case, I recommend my series called "The Fall", where we break down sin in a manageable Christ center bases. This will allow you to start a process of purity so you may come closer to God. If it is of this world, look at what peter says in the New Testament,'But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.' 1 Peter 14.
"For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit." NIV. 1 Peter 17-18
Remember that unlike Daniel, Christ was murdered by the lions of the world; us. Not because he was powerless, but because he was powerful. Christ overcame death and through Christ we are reborn when we accept Christ as our savior and make him our lord. Just as Jesus endured the pain of this world, so do we; not because we are powerful but because we are weak. It's by the grace of God that we even have this option of purity. For perspective think of this as a basketball game. God is the MVP of the NBA playing in your little league team. Just as we are weak, so is the enemy. Therefore we can make one or two shots in the game, yet we are merely just some defense. But if we hand it all to the MVP (God), it is a guaranteed victory. He will tell us to do what is needed to be done, he will execute his authority when it is needed to be done. Victory is brought through our confidence and fear in Christ.
Paul is a perfect example of this. Not only was he persecuted but was once the persecutor. What do we know about the persecutor? They almost always are in control. Of course God can override this, however God grants us free will through his patience. What comes from God's patients is our choice to control or to let God drive. When Paul was in prison we know from multiple sources that he was cool, calm and collected. No fear, just patience. If you were the richest person in the world then a day later a homeless man in prison; always know God has a plan. Do this knowing that like said before he is the "Great I Am". If you don't like that answer it's because you're to busy controlling your own life.
You will Never be the MVP of your own life if God is. Focus your all on God and he will provide a game plan. Acknowledge his power and righteousness, then all your fears WILL go away. Then you will find comfort even in your toughest of times.
